Happy first few days of summer! Can you believe we are already back to living the beach life. This year is interesting for me because i'm gonna cross over the beach life with the city life in the pages to come. It felt appropriate to have my first letter of the summer, with a sunset as the backing. The sun has set on Spring and now we are here in Summer. 3 months of unknown roads to travel. A lot can happen in 3 months and I look forward to seeing where this story goes. Malibu is a town but it's also a metaphor. We are all looking for our own Malibu. A place where we can be free and live our happiest life. Summer is a great time to transition into more changes we have been needing to make in our lives. It's a brand new start to get to our dream come true, like the dream of finding our Malibu.
Come summer time Hawaiian prints are kind of my thing. As some of you may know, I am an island boy. My parents were born and raised on the island of Guam. I am chamorro, and I will always have little nods to my culture and heritage in everything I do. I can't really escape it, it's apart of me. The leaves on the shirt remind me of the leaves in the jungle on Guam. Sometimes something bad can be hidden behind them, but sometimes something good, something you won't expect will be there. I automatically think about summer when I see the leaves. Everyone wants to have some sort of summer adventure and it can make us nervous cause we don't know what's on the other side. Either way, regardless of the result, we will come out a different person. We need to evolve in every way we can. I talk about the circle of life a lot, we are going in circle. Each and every one of us is basically a caterpillar turning into a butterfly over and over again. We keep gaining wings and loosing them to gain stronger and better wings. And we start all over with this sense of purity. My white t-shirt is for purity. White is just perfect for starting over, starting fresh. Honestly my journey this summer is not clear. I know where I want to drive my story to, but how it gets there is far out of reach on my navigator right now. What I do know is as I stood by the ocean, sat by the shore under the sun, with my feet in the sand, I felt a warm presence surrounding me through the wind whispering in my ear that my brand new start in my Malibu will come. I'll have many currents to swim through, so that's why I'm wearing blue shorts to represent the never ending body of water we all have to brave until we get to shore. When the going gets rough, that little shimmer of hope, that dream of Malibu is still there in the back of our minds. With the drive in our souls, we'll swim to the shore. As we step foot on the shore, that brings us to the shoes. Once again the white is for purity. It brings this whole look together into a circle and finishes it off perfectly. As we move forward we carry the lessons we learned from braving the currents and keep moving forward as we walk on land to fulfill our dream come true, whatever that may be in our versions of Malibu.
My goal for summer is to be like the birds catching the wind. For so long I've been looking for a 2nd chance to do it all right. Being trapped in Northern California has not exactly been my favorite thing. Seeing hospital walls and waiting for the knock on the door to give medications and injections has been challenging. Knowing that I have all summer long, a complete summer away from there is a good start on the road to Malibu. For 3 years now, I always thought I would sink, so I never swam. But here I am, taking little steps next to you, so one day I can finally be free and live my dream come true in Malibu. It's nice to know that I have "People" like you that I can write to and talk with as the journey continues.
Sometimes I feel like i'm drowning, and your there to save me.
So I just want to thank you with all of my heart.
And hopefully one day we'll all be living our dream come true
in our own personal Malibu.
