“Oh Christmas Tree” (feat. Brethren Shoes)
Seeing as i’m just now fully recovering from this unexpected cold, I finally have time to go and hunt for a Christmas tree. My family is still old fashioned like that. We actually go out and look for a real Christmas tree. Nowadays, people are lazy and go for the fake ones. I mean, we use several fake trees, but we always have at least one real one. I’m feeling so tired. It’s so cold and I just want to hibernate. But I really want to get out there and shake off my tiredness. Maybe a matcha latte will help. Finding the perfect tree is something that has always been important to me. This year we are a little late at doing that. We have been so busy, that we didn’t get our tree around Thanksgiving, like we do every year. It’s December 11th and we are just now getting it. It’s kind of sad this year. All the tree lots, barely have trees. All the fires really harmed the Christmas trees. Sadly, that left us with not a lot to choose from. Our house is pretty big. I remember my parents would always get us a huge tree, they still do today. When I was working on Let The Music Be Your guide in 2013, we started this tradition of getting a hipster tree. Some call it a Charlie Brown tree, I just call it family. Our decorations are totes 90’s winning, and there is nothing wrong with that. Like I said, it has a hipster vibe. Last year our tree was everything. This year, it is a little challenge. Especially with the lack of trees at every lot we have visited. It really feels like a little part of Christmas has gone missing. Out of all places too, the tree lots. I remember families used to visit the Christmas tree lots, like a little get together. It was a fun and memorable time for everyone to really get into the holiday spirit. Have a hot coco and eat candy canes and watch the staff flock the trees. It was something truly special. Now, it just seems like people are caring less about the spirit and more about the huge discounts. I can’t really speak against them, I showed up to Black Friday and celebrated along with them. At least I never lost sight about the true meaning of the holidays. Now, people don’t care about the smell of the trees or the feel of an actual living tree. I always loved being one with nature. I don’t know, there is just something bittersweet about the trees this year. With all the fires that have affected so many families, it is understandable that there is not a lot to choose from here. As I walked around the tree lots I thought about the families who don’t get to celebrate this year because a lot of them lost everything. Believe it or not, we take for granted things like Christmas trees. I’ve always loved and cared for them, but seeing the harsh reality of global warming and natural disasters, to see see less and less of them this year, is just sad. It is supposed to be the happiest time of year, but it’s a little harsh reminder/wake up call for each and every one of us. As we take our tree home and put it up. All those affected by the fires will be on my mind. If I could, I would fix all their problems and take their heartache away. But I can’t do that. All I can do is help in whatever way I can and honor and respect the tree that we have just purchased. This is a tree that survived along with the survivors. I may be tired, but i’ll never be so tired, to lose sight of the meaning of Christmas and the things like the trees that come with it. Although we are so late getting a tree, I will cherish what were able to find and never forget what it stands for as we honor the true meaning of Christmas. After all, it’s about the memories you make, not about what’s under it.
